According to the American Speech and Hearing Association or ASHA, you can start helping your little one with his language skills right from birth.
Typically between 0-3 months your baby will:
- Make COOING and BABBLING sounds
- Will smile at familiar faces
- Have different cries for different needs
Read Read Read!!
Reading just 15 minutes a day is the easiest way to expose your bundle of joy to language and he will love hearing your voice as well
But What Else?
Reading is not the only way to introduce language to your baby. Talk to your baby, tell him about your day. Take an adventure walk with your baby and Point/Label everything you see. i.e. ” Look baby! That’s a tree and that’s a mailbox.” Another fun idea I personally enjoy doing with my baby is coloring. Grab a few crayons and color a picture, talk about the picture your coloring and that the crayons your using or if you are feeling daring you could even introduce a marker or water paints!
Ready, Set, Action!!
When increasing language skills, focus on Action Words, using bubbles is an excellent way to introduce Action words.
Phrases to Use When Playing With Bubbles
- POP the Bubbles!
- CATCH the Bubbles!
- BLOW Bubbles!
- TAKE the Wand!
- COUNT the Bubbles!
